QUESTION: Does a particular piece of artwork become more appealing when the character is an established, easily recognizable character?

*I am working on developing a slightly different inking/coloring technique.

**See an earlier post to compare the “Hulk” version.

No one went for it, I believe it was the hand.

I would have cut the bottom straight, but better yet, do a full size portrait of Hulk. You sold your self short when I know you can do it. LOVE the face and all the hair, good job. Also the hand on the pants or fist need some work also. A+ For idea, B for look.

To answer your question:

Not completely. Sometimes certain art of a beloved character can drown in the thousands of other pieces dedicated to the same character. There's definitely much more competition, but the rewards are great if you manage to make it that far.

Thanks for the response. :) I think, truthfully, and established character, while the competition is far greater, stands a better chance of getting at least a quick glance. Many collect their favorites and seek them out. Stands to reason really.

Excellent point. Manybe art like this helps increase an artists profile and helps get them noticed for their own work?

Exactly. It creates a platform for upcoming artists to express their interests along with their art style. Wether it be illustration, animation, music, writing, etc, it brings likeminded people together and POOF, a fandom is created.

Fandom is the target goal. Those special people who love something enough to support it.(with their mouths and wallets LOL) To want to "get" something for someone (i.e. views/whatever) you have to GIVE them something. While someone may never have even heard of me, or the work I personally do, they might search for "Archie", "Hulk" etc and in doing so find me. Perhaps appreciate my work enough to stuck around.

After all, we're all just fans here really anyway. :)
